Yes, I believe so. Operating lone F-35 without backup systems that are part of NATO protocol and US doctarine is equivalent to putting S-400 in the middle of desert and expecting it to defend 400km radius. It will never happen. both F-35 and S-400 are effective because of the inputs they get from background Radars, Satcom, Terrain mapping by other assets and integrated command structure.

F35 while better in stealth and sensors than chinese one, will still need support and large no. To take on chinese large no of stealth jets chinese have and producing.
If you let's say get 2 Squads of f35 then you will most likely never use it against other chinese stealth fighters for defense because losing even 1 f35 is a big loss for us, they will mostly be used for selected deep penetration stealth ops and will most likely try not to engage chinese stealth fighters.

Shooting PL-15s with JF-17s radars ? Its like trying to shoot a .50BMG to a target 2 kms away but with just an iron sight.

They'll have to upgrade the radar ofcourse... But there orginal point still stands.

And after losing two aircraft with nothing to show for, it became pretty obvious that Indian Air Force was just making shit up to save face. Almost all the world now disbelieves them (other than patriotic Indians like you ofcourse). That leaves the Paki version, which although probably exaggerated aligns more with reality & everyone think they're telling the truth. That animated "radar map" didn't convince anyone in the world (other than patriotic Indians like you ofcourse).

Well.. the KLJ-7 can do it depending on how close they launched from. Even with it's limited uptime due to the air-cooled architecture, it can still do work against a 3msq target under 70-75 km. But I call bullshit on the PL-15 bit, it's wasteful on the Jeff (and it's not like their F-16s can lead in PL-15s carried by the Jeff). They probably used export model SD-10As which are more on par with the KLJ-7's practical limitations.

If GoI was to go down the tender path , it could've done so since 2016 when the MMRCA was cancelled or later on between 2021-24 , when ACM Chaudhari was adamant on getting the 114 nos thru the tendering route as opposed to the piece meal induction a la MKIs favoured by the MoD & the then CDS.

Since then they've released RFI for the MRFA tender / MMRCA 2.0 in 2016-17 IIRC , for which no AoN has been granted However , the idea prevailing now is to revive procurement thru G2G contracts first for the long pending 36 nos Rafales before moving on with further requirements if any .

But then this is India we're talking about where the government & the various arms of the state work at cross purposes which is to say anything can happen.

Let's wait for the committee appointed to look in to the state of affairs within the IAF to come up with their report . Assuming the broad contours are made public , it's only then we'd have an idea of how things are shaping up .

Supposed to get it this year.
The long time taken has more to do with higher expectations of US military.
For example j20 got foc but still can only carry air to air load, it's only now chinese are making it multirole.

Not sure about that, jf17 is borderline 4th gen. RD33+No Fly by wire+Huge RCS+Heavy payload= EZ target for Astra mk2
ALso it has refueling issues when carrying load and manuvouring, that probe is removable (possibly because of excessive drag)
