Indian Special Forces

I mean RR and infantry was used extensively in the 90s to deal with harder operations so Paras could do hunting ops around the LoC.

How far we have come down. Pathetic. We need to revamp RRs training tactics
And whose fault is this ?

Golf club generals have been insulated from any critique for too long, all the ‘rang de basanti’ angst against netas is well earned but that’s a pretty narrow problem (mostly on the capital side) but tactics, ORBAT, employment etc are all in the hands of big brain wannabe English aristocrats in uniform

Saying this is down to the govt picking generals is nonsense- at most the govt has a say in service chief selection but even then not so much as previous appointments skipping seniority causing uproar have shown. Only really in CDS does the GoI get a say. The service HQs are otherwise staffed and policed internally

I’ve seen geniuses saying Paras deserve the PSO role for generals so their officers get a ‘cushy’ Delhi posting every now and then

Rotten apples smell eventually

Can I get arrested for posting this?

Intuition... A big casualty attack incoming before 26th Jan.

Probability: very high
Unlikely if you are referring to the new grps, their commanders and some of pak cadre and local experienced ones have been slaughtered and new infiltrations are almost impossible at this time of the year

I want to ask you one question..

Lets say we remove Para SF from PSO..Which other unit or regiment should take this role then?

PBGs are a different airborne unit all together.

Infantry doesnt have the aptitude..You know how my fathers bodyguard was picked..it was usually the tallest and fittest soldier..nothing else.

Now we cannot even do away from this system of PSO as you know in wars Lt Gen are a big target and are assets for any Army.

So who do you suggest should be picked?

My mind is just too fucked right now processing how things move in the army like 6/7 years back when I started following this SF stuff and learnt how easily the Meghdoot force came to life (relative to today) similarly 10's raising and 1's conversion + how quickly 9 came so close to become some SPG like force and also the new SF HQ and regiment which were later reversed . . .

Today it just seems impossible to change anything at any level
Fuck this shit

As I say again and again- India needs more specialists and not more generalists

PSO is a largely police function, let MPs carve out a specialist unit for this role. Ample decent trainers for this in India between SPG, NSG and CAPFs

I doubt Paras doing this job even get that much training in it- can they do defensive/offensive driving? It seems 90% of their brief is just to look swag

It’s not all down but it’s a huge problem. You keep blaming one branch of the problem when there are three in reality.

Absolutely disgraceful that Paras are being used for general security now.

I dont think Para does any driving courses not even 10 does that ..would be happy to proved wrong.

NSG does that.

Because back then the army genrails were actually serious about who ran them. In 1965 war (when Meghdoot force was made), Major Gen Nirajan Prasad was sacked in one day for a failed operation in the BRB canal.

In july Indian forces killed 3 militants and lost 14 soldiers. Who was sacked for this failure? No one.

Doubt it too- guys are given an ear piece on day one and told you are PSOs now is my best guess

It’s all fun and games until they have to actually take on a dynamic threat one day. Even if you’re a super slick combatant close protection in an urban setting is a very niche job and every top such unit in the world is made up of law enforcement and not military guys in this role

Latin countries have better trained people than us in this.

Ideally,The Military Police should've its own squad of elite bodyguards ,trained and equipped for such duties .But as far as our MPs are concerned, they are practically traffic wardens ( According to a Retd Col friend of mine ) .Unlike the rest of Developed world .Indian Army's Military Police don't even have any capacity or training to conduct In house Criminal Investigation,Any serious criminal cases is handed over to Local Police / CID/ CBI ..
They only deal with open and shut cases like Suicide .
Can't say about Air Force or Navy Police

The most that I heard of them is when some of their troops buy a maroon beret on purpose (really close to their red ones) and flex that
